Tokyo's Harajuku district has long been regarded as a hub for culture and street fashion. As such, it was the perfect spot for Takashi Murakami to take over with his Louis Vuitton collaboration. To celebrate the relaunch of their colorful line, which includes a striking campaign starring Zendaya, the artist has brought his vibrant designs to a pop-up store, a coffee shop, and a railway station.

Adding a touch of color and whimsy to the daily commutes of those who call Tokyo home, Murakami covered parts of the famous JR Harajuku station with his cheerful motifs. Pictures shared by the artist on Instagram show the stairs leading from the station platform to the ticket gates transformed into a lively photo op.

The pop-up store was opened on Harajuku’s Cat Street, known for being home to many fashion retailers. The green glass façade of the venue was decorated with oversized motifs, immersing visitors in the collection before they even set foot in the pop-up. Inside, minimalist modules inspired by Japan's famous capsule hotels exhibit new pieces and archival items from the original 2003 collection.

The nearby Takashi Murakami x Louis Vuitton café by Coffee Zingaro rounded out the experience. The stars of the show were matcha lattes featuring latte art of Murakami’s world-famous Superflat flowers, as well as cookies and pastries featuring these designs. The coffee shop also boasts digital installations and a giant panda sculpture that welcomes visitors with a wide smile.

While Louis Vuitton has opened similar experiences in fashion hubs such as New York City and Milan, there is something special about the events in Murakami's hometown. After all, they allow a wider share of his audience to experience the charm of this monumental collaboration. If you visit Tokyo in the coming weeks, the pop-up shop and café are open until January 26, 2025.

Fashion Designer Redefines the Limits of the Body Through Her Dynamic and Inventive Haute-Couture Garments

Hosted by Lightroom in London, Vogue: Inventing the Runway is an evocative journey through the moments that have shaped and redefined fashion. The exhibition revolves around Vogue’s prestigious archives and collaborators through immersive installations, offering a front-row glimpse into the history of the fashion runway. Featured within is Iris van Herpen’s Hypnosis show.

The fashion designer is renowned for her innovative approach to clothing, all of which masterfully balance technology, fluidity, and physics. Her pieces resemble art more than anything, with garments that billow like clouds, shoot out like arrows, and unravel like butterfly wings. Hypnosis is no different.

Originally staged in 2019, the show was created in collaboration with the American kinetic sculptor Anthony Howe, whose works are wind-powered. As van Herpen’s models strutted down the runway, Howe’s sculptures bloomed behind them, the metallic vertebrae resembling flower petals in their gentle swaying.

Van Herpen’s garments were equally dynamic, the bold and entrancing patterns seeming to vibrate with each step. This effect was primarily achieved through the Japanese ink-on-water technique suminagashi, which literally translates to “floating ink.” The resulting patterns swirl and twist in a way reminiscent of marble, generating a constant sense of movement.

More than her incredible command over fabric, van Herpen’s Hypnosis demonstrated the rewarding intersections between art, sculpture, and fashion. It’s fitting, then, that the runway show be highlighted in Inventing the Runway.

Van Herpen’s curiosity and ingenuity, however, didn’t stop at Hypnosis. Model, actress, and singer Danna wore a dazzling gown during the premier of Wicked this past fall, the asymmetric silk clinging to and cascading from her body like seaweed. The Galactic Glitch dress, on the other hand, is more architectural, featuring an elegant interlinked mesh that creates a harmonica effect.

“Contemplating movement as a metamorphic force enables these ethereal creations to extend from the human body, sculpting their forms into multidimensional silhouettes,” van Herpen writes on her website.

To explore more brilliant and unexpected creations, visit Iris van Herpen’s website and follow her on Instagram.

Fashion designer Iris van Herpen creates garments that challenge where the human body begins and ends.

Her garments cascade, billow, unfold, and surprise, always incorporating movement and fluidity at every step.

Her Hypnosis runway show, first staged in 2019, is now being highlighted in a new exhibition in London titled Vogue: Inventing the Runway.

Hypnosis was created in collaboration with kinetic sculptor Anthony Howe, and beautifully merged art, movement, and fashion.

A few weeks ago, Louis Vuitton announced it would be relaunching their legendary collaboration with Japanese artist Takashi Murakami. Now, an equally exciting element has entered this partnership. The French fashion house recently teased that the campaign for this collection will be starred by award-winning actor Zendaya.

Zendaya became an ambassador for Louis Vuitton in 2023, and has been the face of previous campaigns, such as one for the timeless Capucines handbag. However, her connection to fashion has long transcended sponsorships and runways. Over the last few years, Zendaya has made headlines for her elaborate red carpet looks, many of which rely on archival designer pieces and pay tribute to iconic outfits of yesteryear.

As one of the biggest style icons of the moment, Zendaya builds a bridge between the original collection, launched in 2003, and the excitement around Y2K aesthetics from Gen Z. “Young people are reviving that era, and we want to connect with them through this re-release,” Pietro Beccari, chairman and chief executive officer of Louis Vuitton, told Women's Wear Daily. “We wanted to reach out to the generation who is not yet familiar with that collaboration, but who loves what was done 20 years ago and more recently with the Monogramouflage.”

The campaign imagery, shot by photographers Inez and Vinoodh, shows a large-scale Zendaya sporting some of the most coveted pieces of the collection against playful backgrounds, all surrounded by Murakami's signature colorful motifs. Recently, Louis Vuitton gave a sneak peek of this collaboration with a video starring Murakami himself, who sends Zendaya a message from Japan to New York with the help of a pink vintage flip phone.

The new LV x Murakami campaign will get its official release on January 1, 2025. To stay up to date with the relaunch of this historic collection, follow Louis Vuitton and Takashi Murakami on Instagram.

French fashion house Louis Vuitton recently announced an exciting new collaboration with legendary Japanese artist Takashi Murakami. Set to launch on January 1, 2025, the collection revisits their iconic partnership that first debuted on the Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2003 runway.

When the original collection dropped in the early 2000s, it became instantly iconic. Murakami’s playful, colorful designs paired with Louis Vuitton’s classic style turned heads everywhere and totally redefined what luxury could look like. Now, with the rerelease just around the corner, fans and collectors alike are ready to get their hands on these timeless pieces all over again, two decades after its original release.

While the full details of the 2025 collection are still under wraps, fans are speculating that the reedition will feature the iconic Multicolore collection, the pink Cherry Blossom designs, and, come May, the series of bags and accessories adorned with Murakami’s signature, cartoon-style cherries.

In 2009, Marc Jacobs, Louis Vuitton’s then-creative director, reflected on the impact of the original collection, saying: “Our collaboration has produced a lot of works and has been a huge influence and inspiration to many. It has been, and continues to be, a monumental marriage of art and commerce.” He added, “The ultimate crossover—one for both the fashion and art history books.”

As part of the announcement, Louis Vuitton shared clips from The Superflat Monogram, a whimsical short film created by Takashi Murakami and originally released in 2003. The film follows Aya, a young girl who stumbles into a vibrant, psychedelic wonderland while waiting for her friends outside a Louis Vuitton store. The brand says the film perfectly embodies the “playful spirit of the artist’s original collaboration with the House.”

Check out Louis Vuitton’s teasers below, and mark your calendars—the remastered Louis Vuitton x Murakami collection drops on the Louis Vuitton website on January 1, 2025.

Although we wear clothes all the time, how often do we really think about who made them or where they came from before they reached the store we picked them from? Rarely. Hoping to spotlight the humans behind the garments we wear, clothing company Los Angeles Apparel added their workers' faces and bios to their clothing tags, adding a layer of transparency to the manufacturing process.

This homage is small in size, but goes a long way. The concept is simple—attached to the seams, right next to the laundry instructions, is a photograph and a few lines about a staff member of Los Angeles Apparel. From sewers to supervisors and even models, the tiny messages try their best at painting a humanizing portrait of each person within the limited space available.

Within the confines of the tag, the company shares a tidbit about each person, such as their favorite dish, where they come from, and what they like to do in their free time. For example, a man named Santos is described as a “multi-talented employee” who paints and molds clay with his three daughters. Another worker named Diego is an “expert sewer” who loves his mom's enchiladas and roots for the Dodgers. While highlighting each employee, the tags simultaneously send a message about the diversity around the company and the LA area, closing each statement with the words, “That's Los Angeles.”

The company has also paid tribute to their workers in their newsletter, sharing a longer story about how they look after their workers. They also point out that, as a company with an LA-based operation, they pay taxes in California and offer fair wages. “All of our workers earn fair wages, with our starting employees making an average of $20 an hour,” reads the company site. “The garment workers at our factory are experts in their field and can make up to $35 an hour with productivity bonuses in a safe and ethically managed environment.”

While this effort has been praised for adding visibility to their workers, who come mostly from minority groups, the company has also had its fair share of controversies. Los Angeles Apparel was created by Dov Charney, former CEO of American Apparel, who was fired after numerous allegations including sexual harassment, racism, and sexual assault. The company also experienced a COVID outbreak in 2020 that resulted in at least four employee deaths.

Many critics of Los Angeles Apparel say it’s important for the company to acknowledge and be responsible for its actions and its leadership’s misconduct, while simultaneously praising the tags that give due credit to its laborers. Ultimately, it’s up to the company to remain accountable while prioritizing labor safety, and the consumer to decide whether they invest in the company. One thing is clear though: the acknowledgement of workers is a stark reminder of the hard work that’s put into everything we wear.

Based in Bangkok, TipTop Things is a collective of friends dedicated to designing climate-positive products that enhance everyday life. They recently launched their latest design on Kickstarter—the Nanobag Daypack, an ultra-light, pocket-sized backpack that blends convenience with eco-friendly design.

The Nanobag Daypack is made from super-soft diamond ripstop fabric, which is just 0.05 millimeters thick—that’s half the width of a human hair! It has the ability to fold into a tiny pouch measuring around 3.5 x 2 inches (9 x 5 cm) and weighing just 1.15 ounces (33 grams). That means you can easily fit the Nanobag into your pocket when you aren’t using it.

Despite its ultra-lightweight design, the Nanobag can carry an impressive 66 pounds (30 kilograms), thanks to its sturdy construction. Once unfolded, it expands to 18.5 inches (47 centimeters) tall and 13.8 inches (35 centimeters) wide, offering plenty of space for all your essentials. Wide straps provide a comfortable and balanced distribution of weight. And the Daypack even features a sturdy YKK zipper reinforced with bartack stitching on stress points.

The Daypack comes in 12 different designs, from plain black and navy to abstract patterns and camouflage. But the Nanobag isn’t just convenient and stylish. It also gives consumers the opportunity to contribute to a greener planet.

“By choosing us, you're not just selecting a backpack—you're embracing a more sustainable lifestyle,” says TipTop Things on Kickstarter. “For every Nanobag sold, we’ll also plant a tree in partnership with Eden Reforestation Projects.”

Fashion Influencer Styles Outfits Inspired by Countries Around the World for His “High Fashion Olympics”

With the Olympic Games over and the Paralympics less than a week away, people are still buzzing about the best athletes from around the world gathered in one place. Inspired by the international display of talent, Wisdom Kaye has channeled this feeling into what he does best—fashion. The director, photographer, and model and has styled incredibly elegant outfits inspired by countries around the world for his “High Fashion Olympics,” a display of his boundless creativity and unique vision.

“Originally the goal for each look was to pull from different cultural aspects of each country to make their respective look, for example with China the blazer underneath the coat is worn with the collar up to parallel a Tanghuang, a traditional Chinese jacket which features the mandarin collar which originated in imperial China,” explains Kaye. “The texture and material chosen for the the outer coat is to represent the dragon, which is the fifth animal in the Chinese zodiac cycle, which corresponds to the year 2024, the Wood Dragon and the year of the recent Olympic Games, the star brooches also representing the starts on the flag.”

Kaye hoped to cover all the countries with this approach—evoking the country's flag and featuring pieces created by designers originating from the respective country. However, once he started working on it, he realized the plan was just out of reach due to time constraints, settling for either of the two.

Despite the setbacks, Kaye delivered 30 colorful and complex outfits. Most commendably, he excels at playing around with limited color palettes and motifs. For example, while the U.S., UK, France, and Australia flags share similar colorways, the stylist cleverly creates very different outfits that also reflect each countries values and history. While the UK gets the royal treatment with a long coat, the Australian outfit is more laid back and nods to the Southern Cross on the flag with discreet shiny accessories.

Take a look at all of the fashionable young man's outfits from his “High Fashion Olympics” and make sure to follow Kaye on Instagram to stay up to date with his stylish experiments.

Ever since Rosa Saito broke into the modeling industry, she has become the ultimate proof that age is just a number. The 73-year-old Brazilian model has walked the runway, starred in marketing campaigns, and graced the covers of fashion magazines. But most surprisingly, she has only done this for about five years—she first pursued a modeling career after her 68th birthday.

“No one had commented on my appearance until I reached 67, when people suddenly started to notice me,” Saito told The Guardian. It all began when photographers and casting agents in her hometown of São Paulo began stopping her in the street to compliment her looks and suggest she became a model. “It was very strange, but being spotted made me realize I could still achieve something for myself at this stage of my life,” she continued.

Known for her long, silver hair and elegant poses, Saito has tackled all kinds of fashion projects. Since we last checked in on her, she has starred in a Mother's Day campaign for fashion brand IDA, modeled jewelry for TROIS, appeared in ELLE Brazil, and even became the face for a line of beauty products by O Boticario.

Although she seems like a natural due to the elegance she emanates, it wasn't always easy. “At my first casting they asked me to act like I was just getting home from a nightclub, but I have never done that before,” she recalled. “I didn’t get the job, but I started to see how modeling is about inhabiting a character and performing. It was a challenge that began to excite me.”

The rejections only made her want to try harder. By turning past experiences into knowledge, she knew what photographers and other models would need to make a shoot work.

On top of the grace she brings to the industry, her attitude towards aging has turned her into a role model. For her, it’s important to show the fashion world that women like her exist and should be represented.

“I don’t feel old and I don’t think about getting old, since it’s a gift to be doing this in my 70s,” she says. “I have plenty of dreams for the future and milestones I want to achieve, but the real beauty of maturity is knowing that anything is possible, at any age.”
